Kickstarted my journey of personal growth.

I love this book, and reccomend everyone and anyone read this as a part of your personal development journey. I continue to use the techniques described when I find myself not thinking as cool-headed as i would like, even years later than when I started reading it. If you do decide to order, commit to ACTUALLY doing the exercises. You will get little or no benefit from reading without doing the work. I found it important to cover sections very slowly so as not to overwhelm myself, but forging ahead when necessary.

A great working book

I am a License Professional Counselor and utilize ACT in my practice. I have worked through this book with two of my clients and the feedback I get is nothing but positive. It is written in a non-clinical way and my clients have really learned a lot through reading and putting exercises into practice. I highly recommend this book to any professional or nonprofessional and I will continue to use it in my practice.

There were some things I hung onto since childhood. I really don't want to go into the personal details on here but I'll tell you that I used to get pissed off about some things that I wasn't really aware of. This book helped me pretty much eliminate it. What a tremendous skill to have. People who have anger that they have a hard time controlling are usually called jerks and are not thought of to have hurt and pain. We think of these people as someone who's "got issues." Well, that's cool, but if you want to really care about people and want to help someone who has anger they're holding onto from their past, be gentle with them and give them an opportunity to see for themselves what they are doing so they can HAVE the opportunity to change. Feeling judged by someone you love for having a hard time expressing your anger is the last thing an angry person needs. It will only compel them to behave that way even MORE out of defensiveness. Besides that, give them this book. If they are truly open to it...or YOU are the one who has the anger and you are willing to read this and follow it AS IT TELLS YOU TO...then I promise you will see results. I did and it's made a world of difference in my familial relationships and friendships. I am more capable of trusting in others because I followed the instruction in this book.
