Step aside, Stephanie Meyer...

Move aside Twilight, because there is a new vampire novel in town. Turns out, there IS a way for writers to make vampires original without turning them into sparkling, lovesick teen drama. This book has everything, but what kept me hooked from start to finish was the author, Samantha Stone's pacing. She knows how to temper the slower moments of her book with intense action, humor, and romance. There's no such thing as "just one more chapter" once you start reading Bending Nature. Once you start, you are in it until the end. Michael was a character that any girl reader would fall in love with, aside from the twist as to why he started the story as a statue, the fact that he was a statue was very symbolic to me, both physically (as Michael's features were like sculpted marble) and otherwise. The main character, Julie is such a firecracker, too. The kind of heroine you really root for. I often find myself hating female main characters, but not in this case. Even when she inevitably fell in love with Michael, I fell right along with her. This isn't Anne Rice and it's definitely not Stephanie Meyer - but that is certainly the biggest compliment I can give. Very original and very, very worth the read! The ending left my mouth hanging open, for sure.

Great story and concept but there were some downsides

I thought this book was very interesting and it had an amazing concept. I liked the characters and the fact that each character had their own unique personality. I think this story has some pacing problems overall though. All the action happens right away in chapter 1 and to me, it almost felt like I was rushed into things. I wanted to get to know Julie and her family and friends more before the action really started to happen with Michael, Venna and the secret society. This seems to happen throughout the entire story. I feel like there could have been some time between each major event in the story. Another thing I noticed was some grammatical errors and even words missing in some sentences. Other than these couple of things, it was an enjoyable read. Like I said before, I enjoyed the characters and I like that this book had a concept and idea that hasn't really been used before. If you make a sequel to this, I would most definitely read it. I will share this book with others and let them enjoy it as much as I did.

interesting take on an old concept

So, it's a bit hard to do a type of a vampire that hasn't been done. Well, this author has done it. Michael is a vampire, one with wings which is interesting. Not only that, he's a prince, and vampires aren't from this world. They're a different species, more advanced, and of course feed on blood. Get weird when the vamps decide to come to high school all in an elaborate and twisted plan to take over and save the world. And Julie has her place in it all, which became obvious once certain things were mentioned but still it works. Doesn't seem like the story is done, but it's not exactly a cliffhanger ending either. It's different and I like it. It's a book that fits more in the new adult category as while sex is mentioned or hinted at, there aren't any graphic scenes which makes sense being that Julie is only seventeen, as are most of her friends. Nonetheless, an interesting take on an old concept
