Over 100 Years Of Assurance

I drive trucks for a living. Years ago, the Thomas Guide was a required tool that one needed in their arsenal when making deliveries both short and far. Nowadays, many of us have evolved with technology. Let's get real, GPS has made it a lot easier and a lot more convenient. However, there are times when one will have no reception, a dead battery or may not even have a phone on them when they really need it. Even if all is working, sometimes the application's map data may not reflect the reality. In these times, a Thomas Guide will always save the day. I keep one in the back of my truck in the event that these situations occur, and trust me, they have. I urge everyone, especially the young, to learn how to use a Thomas Guide. If you can learn how to navigate with it, you will have no trouble getting around.

Don't place your trust completely in technology. Always have a backup.

It's a fat heavy spiral bound book but it's a big, big city.

Google maps just does not do justice to this 90 mile wide county that is Los Angeles.

It's a fat heavy spiral bound book but it's a big, big city.

The one weakness is, it should have a one page freeway map somewhere. Bad that the spiral splits the two page freeway map in the most important intersections.

I'm an appraiser and have been using the Thomas guide for over 30 years in naming my files so it's easy to locate other reports

I know were in a digital age but they should never stop making these. I'm an appraiser and have been using the Thomas guide for over 30 years in naming my files so it's easy to locate other reports I might be able to use as a template for a new assignment. The local MLS systems have retired the Thomas Guide filed but FNMA reports still require map reference. I was freaking out for a while because I had to do a whole new naming convention for my files and it took twice as long to locate a template. It dawned on me that maybe there were still Thomas Guides available on Amazon and thank god there are. My efficiency has increased again and stress levels has been significantly reduced!!!!

About the Author
Ewan Clayton is a distinguished calligrapher and professor in the Faculty of Arts, Design and Media at the University of Sunderland. For a number of years he worked as a consultant to Xerox PARC with an interest in digital communications technology. He has exhibited and taught calligraphy in many parts of the world.

From Marks on Clay to the Internet

I have to admit, it took me a while to get through this book although I was fascinated by the idea of a history of writing. However, while this book briefly touches on Egyptian hieroglyphics and the Greek contributions to the alphabet, the bulk of the narrative is about the Latin alphabet and European writing. The author spends many pages talking about the minute changes to the Latin alphabet over the years, the creation of "small letters," the changeover from handwritten manuscripts in legible letters to the advent of print and the creation of different fonts. I'm a font nerd and after a while some of the detail made my eyes glaze over, but then some new concept would emerge and I would forge on. There's some fascinating discussion about inks, pen points and the angle of holding the point, the creation of fonts (it's a lot more than just drawing some letters), quills vs. steel pens, etc., but be advised this is a scholarly work, and pretty much Eurocentric. If you're looking for something on Sanskrit, the Arabic and Cyrillic alphabets, and Japanese and Chinese brush writing you'll have to look elsewhere.

Another excellent fan manga

Another excellent fan manga! :) This book includes a battle during which Vegeta must give it everything he's got to stand up against the new and improved 4-star dragon! But will his new found power as a SSJ5 even be enough?? Find out TUH-DAY!! Hahaha But seriously, This is just another great addition to this phenomenal version of the AF series. My compliments go out to everyone who has been making the U.S. release of this manga series a reality.

As the editor of Soundview Executive Book Summaries, which distills business books into 5,000-word recaps, Murray offers 17 such summaries of marketing books published in the last 15 years. It's arguably a narrow range for the best "of all time"—even with big names like Regis McKenna and Sergio Zyman on board. Each book summary begins with a quick summation, often making redundant the introductions written especially for the collection. And though the condensed versions manage to extract the key ideas from each text, some authors fare better than others. Faith Popcorn's unique voice survives compression, for example, much better than Seth Godin's does. The selected books are sequenced to suggest a broader argument that runs from connecting with customers to marketing in the 21st century, but the actual connections between the various works are largely unstated. Unless you're completely new to marketing research, chances are you've come across at least one of these books already, but Soundview's summaries are a good introduction for those with no background. Guru Review....excellent

I had to pick a book and write a review as part of an assignment of for may graduate marketing class. Having no marketing experience I took a shot in the dark and picked this book.

I am so glad I did. Although the authors of the original full-text versions would disagree, Mr. Murray "readers digest" summaries of the book were terrific. This book allowed me a great overview of 17 marketing books in one.

For someone new to marketing it was so quick and excellent reading to get me up to speed. You'll have to wait for a experienced marketing major for their judgment.

I felt it should be required reading for anyone who wants to know more about marketing but don't have the time to read all the full-text versions.

A wonderful time saver!

I was teaching a class on marketing at a local college and I found this book valuable to review many of the principles I have used thoroughout my own life with the 15 successful businesses I have run. I was able to read this book quickly, absorb the primary points and found the advice given totally in line with my own personal experiences as a serial entrepreneur. A must read for anyone wanting an overview of marketing tips for the self-employed.
