A fantasy adventure with some erotica!

Story has potential, now it’s up to the author to iron out some of the weak spots. As with all the books nowadays the main character starts out as the weakest character in the story. His friends and outside influences help strengthen his resolve. The author needs to be careful with weak and whinny. Nobody likes whinny characters. Found the erotica to be straight forward, not dominate in the book. Author seems to be looking for that right mixture of a story, with a sugar added. Would have given the author 3.5 stars if possible, but since the author took the chance to create the story, I rounded the rating up to 4 stars.

Easy to read not too many characters. The sex parts were predictable but still got the blood flowing. Should have been more to the female Nia character and her familiar. Overall entertaining and satisfying.

I skimmed through the book, but also failed to receive any communication directly from the author's website. Some strange beliefs are entailed here, or at least the denial of the Scripture (from Genesis to Revelation) as being the only and fully inspired Word of G-d. Gen 6 was quoted as having 8 people on the ark as the Word of G-d says. This author claims that perhaps others were on the ark as well. That would make G-d a liar which He is not. A man can only have one wife, not as many as he wishes. Sorry, while the author does have some historical knowledge, he is not grounded in The Truth (aka Messiah Yeshua).

Not the original story

This was a children's book re-written by someone else and the author even said, "when the children are older, they may want to read the original by Felix salten." When I turned the book over, there was another story from back to front about a horse. I refused to read Bambi's Children and I'm waiting for the original one. NO GOOD.

An Old Childhood Favorite Revisted

When I was a young child, I, my parents and twin sister, would spend part of the summer in Five Islands, Maine. We stayed at a large house belonging to our father's great aunt, who would take in boarders every summer. One summer the house was so full, my sister and I ended up in the attic, with rows of books behind our beds. Among the books were Bambi, Bambi's Children, and Perri, and all three became favorites of mine. Many times while I was growing up, and grown up, I so wished I could get a copy of Bambi's Children, and was delighted to be able to order a used copy from amazon.com. It was so enjoyable reading about Bambi and Faline's two fawns, Geno and Gurri, and how different in personality they were. In the course of the novel, you meet their Aunt Rolla and her fawns, Lana and Boso, and the two orphans, Nello and Membo. And, in the end, the mother, Faline, knowing when the time was right, sends her and Bambi's children off to start lives of their own. Magic and wonderment on every page, and a joy to read, and read again.

There are some scenes here Disney will never show you. I particularly enjoyed Bambi running off the poacher in a quivering bundle of nerves. If that actually happened occasionally, what is commonly called "sport" wouldn't be so popular, but it would be a little more sporting.

I do wish someone would write in human in a story about deer who is at peace with them. But I guess no one else is interested in that.

Perfect compliment to the frescoes series

If you've loved any or all of the five luscious volumes on Italian frescoes published by Abbeville or even if you haven't seen them, you'll love this stunning look at the mosaics that, for the most part, came before the painting. This is a fabulous tour from Sicily to Ravenna, with beautiful photos of the mosaics and just enough commentary. Poeschek gives us a comprehensive tour of each cycle and a bit of the history and various interpretations (well footnoted), but doesn't get bogged down in academic details. This is definately a book for the art aficionado, not the professional art historian. If you've seen any of these mosaics you'll find a wonderful reminder of their beauty (and learn more than the guidebook told you) and if you haven't, this is a perfect armchair tour with the same type of high-quality, well-selected photos that grace the frescoe books. The highlights include:

-Cathedral of Monreale (at 85,000 sq ft the largest cycle in Italy)and other great cycles in Sicily
-San Marco, Venice
-San Vitale and the other major sites in Ravenna
-Roman sites including Santa Maria Maggiore, Santa Maria in Trastevere, San Clemete and the incredible Santi Comas and Damiano among others.

Buy it if you can

It is a funtastic book. We love it. There are many mosaics that you simply can't see when you are in Italy & even if you are there one can't see all the details as well as in the book. Not to mention the fact that you can open the book any time but you can't get to these mosaics any time you like.

Terrific suspense/thriller!

I order this book after reading a rave review and read it in 2 sittings (even though it's 360 pages), which is a good indication of what a page turner it is. I looked up the author and found out this is his first novel, but was not surprised to learn he is a successful screenwriter. The book is very 'cinematic,' a super-fast read, and I wouldn't be surprised if this book ended up as a Hollywood film some day.

The book is structured by intercutting between various stories that converge. It's about a son (ex-LAPD) who investigates the disappearance of his intellectual but emothionally distant father (a philosophy professor - hence the title!). Over the course of the investigation, the father and son come to learn about each other. That might make it sound like a drama, but the story is really a page-turner suspense/mystery.

Anyway, there are lots of great twists to the story, so that's all I will say. But I hope the author writes another book.

If this book doesn't become a movie something is terribly wrong; it is so visual and compelling

I am not a big reader, but this book came alive to me. It is so suspenseful, thrilling, with engaging characters, plot twists and more, much more. I wanted to see how it was going to end but I did not want it to end. It grabs you and takes you on a delirious journey. I just could not put it down. If this book doesn't become a movie something is terribly wrong; it is so visual and compelling. Just when I thought I had it figured out, along comes a well thought out twist and I go along on another ride. It is fast paced, masterfully written and a true page turner. I read it on an airplane and was never aware of the time as we landed. I consider it a must read.

While the Naked Philosopher is a suspenseful detective novel, with great characters and settings and more than enough twists and turns for the aficianado, it also draws on a deep emotional reservoir in the form of a complex and unresolved relationship between father and son. The father in question is a famous philosophy professor, Joseph Pearl, who's broken a two year silence with his ex-LAPD detective son, Jack, using as an excuse a philosophy conference being held in L.A. When Joseph disappears without warning, Jack sets out to find him, and, in the process, uncovers a great deal he didn't expect about his father, himself, his father's women, and the ideas and rivalries that fuel the world of contemporary philosophy.

The Naked Philosopher is a page turner with a brain. Do yourself a favor and read it.

Johannes Fink is a Professor of Polymer Chemistry at Montanuniversität Leoben in Vienna, Austria. Dr. Fink teaches macromolecular chemistry. His career spans for more than thirty years in the field of polymers, including characterization, flame retardancy and pyrolysis of polymers. Johannes has published multiple books and articles, including Petroleum Engineer’s Guide to Oil Field Chemicals and Fluids, 2nd Edition, Water-Based Chemicals and Technology for Drilling, Completion, and Workover Fluids and Hydraulic Fracturing Chemicals and Fluids Technology, all published by Elsevier.

Not a reputable resource for researchers or anyone wanting an unbiased view regarding fracking chemicals

If you're looking for a resource that is founded/supported in scientific research (and not opinion or an engineer's perspective), this is NOT the book you want. I bought this book because I was looking for a resource explaining why each chemical was used, and I could see from the "Look Inside" option that literature was cited by the book. Unfortunately, most of the in-text citations are to US Patent applications, which are useless to me as a researcher. This book does not really describe anything more than what you can find on any "hydraulic fracturing" website. Also, I was disappointed that this really only gave one side of the story…the oil & gas industry/engineer's point of view, which is obviously biased.
